Article background information [to use as knowledge, not to be copied verbatim]:The 5 Best With a Crunch Word Whizzle Sites on the Internet.

Advantages:

The sites are free to use and you can play with your friends and family too! The format is easy to learn and will only take a short while before you feel comfortable with the games that are on the respective websites.

Disadvantages:

The sites can be a little slow moving so they may not be ideal if you want a quick game such as scrabble or crosswords. Additionally, you may find that some of the games on these websites are common knowledge so that you know what word it is straight away. These two points aside, I’d say these websites were perfect for what they wish to achieve. As with any game, there are those that are better at it than others. So the sites listed above have their own styles of play. However, I feel that crunching is a fairly simple concept and can be applied to almost every type of scavenger hunt and puzzle including Sudoku, sudoku puzzles, mazes, logic tests, treasure hunts and others.

Regardless of what type of challenge it will be in terms of difficulty or length – crunching can be applied to all games. The best way to find out what kind of challenge your game is would be to figure out which parts you will need for crunching purposes such as letters or numbers. Then you can work out how many of each you will need for your game.  In terms of numbers and letters, there are plenty more on the internet that I did not include. I have instead included the websites that I feel provide the best games for crunching purposes. If you do not see your favorite website listed, then chances are it is already on there!

Facts:

Crunching is believed to have originated from Victorian England and was not considered a serious game until the 1920s when it gained popularity especially with young girls. Members of the British royal family seem to be big fans of the game which could account for why the game became so popular in England. Queen Victoria, Prince Edward and Prince Leonard were all devoted players!

Until the 1950s, crunching was mainly played by women. However, as technology advanced, so did crunching and now there are many websites available on the internet that can let you play with your friends and family across both countries as well as continents! The internet allows you to connect with people that you may otherwise never interact with or even meet in real life.
