What Does a Social Media Manager Do?

A social media manager is someone who oversees all of the company’s major social networks. They set up strategies from the ground up and ensure that everything is being done correctly.

As a social media manager, you will have to be able to plan content creation and post schedule posting, as well as monitoring the amount of engagement on each individual post.

Job Description of a Social Media Manager

It’s important to note the difference between a social media manager and a digital marketing specialist, who may also have a big role in social media.

Social media managers develop relationships with influencers and give feedback on performance to make sure they are on track.

A digital marketer manages the entire digital marketing plan from content, promotion and measurement within an organization from an agency or in-house.

As a social media manager, you will be responsible for making sure everything goes smoothly. These are your responsibilities:

1. Interact With the Audience

You will make posts on a variety of platforms and interact with followers or other people. You must understand what content will be most effective for each platform you have been assigned to.

2. Post Content

Your job description also entails posting pictures, videos, GIFs and more. You may have to answer questions from followers as well as comment on existing photos or videos that aren’t initiated by you. You will also need to understand the consensus that is found by analyzing the data.

3. Maintain Relationships With Bloggers and Influencers

Influencers are the people who influence an audience of thousands, so you will need to build relationships with influencers in order to promote your business or organization.

You’ll need to know how to express interest in their posts, join them on social media and create content that is tailored for their audience.

4. Finding Influencers for Your Business

First, you’ll need to identify who your target influencer might be. You can do this by checking out keywords of each influencer, then seeing who has the most followers of that group on Twitter or Instagram.

After you have their Twitter or Instagram name, you can search the hashtags for relevant keywords to find content coming from influencers.

Once you have your target influencer, check out their number of followers. If they have a large following, already have published articles or are generally active on social media, they could be a good choice.

5. Analyze the Competition

You must also analyze the competition for your product or business. You can do this by checking out what other similar organizations are doing on social media to get an idea of how things are being done.

6. Understand Analytics

Social media analytics is critical in order to understand how your strategy is being received.

From this data, you’ll be able to determine what types of posts attract followers and what times of day have the best activity on each platform.

Analytics software like Google Analytics, Facebook Insights and others will help you gain insight into your strategy’s performance.

7. Monitor Your Campaigns

You will need to monitor the campaign you have put together, so you can make sure everything is being done correctly.

To do this, you should keep track of the social media pages, influencers and hashtag strategies that are being used to promote your business or organization.

You can also monitor analytics data while posting to know what is working best on your behalf.

8. Constantly Create Content Throughout the Year

You need to be constantly creating new content for marketing purposes. It might be pictures, videos or just writing short blog posts that are reflecting on your business or organization’s goals for that month or quarter.
