Men’s health research- acurian

Acurian is a new startup geared towards men’s health research. They provide actionable insights on the state of your health, the prevention of disease, and most importantly, how to take control of your life. 

We talked to founder Dr. Dave Frishman about how he came up with this idea and what it means for you!

A few years ago, while working in NYC at a well-renowned hospital as the Chief Innovation Officer for their partner company Acurian, I was given an ultimatum by my CEO to choose between two projects: one that would help define men’s health or another that would improve women’s healthcare in America. 

When he gave me the choice, I chose the latter and so we partnered with Dr. Susan Love, CEO of OBGYN ACURIAN, to create a cutting-edge women’s health company that was rooted in science. 

Here are some points discussed about research for men’s health acurian

1. The “Alpha” Male.

Men’s health research is the most important research in the world because there is so much room for growth. 

There are numerous areas of gender equality that need to be addressed, but most importantly, men are not talking about these issues with each other. 

The term “alpha male” is an overused one which doesn’t mean anymore than “smart man.” 

It doesn’t give you any idea of what this guy has accomplished or how he can positively affect your mental health and well-being.

If we could all take a minute to ask ourselves the question, “How could this man positively impact my life?,” we would know what to do and we wouldn’t feel like we were doing it alone. This is especially true for men.

2. The “Alpha Male Effect” On Your Body.

Men tend to take care of their bodies better than women, but they also tend to skip other important health steps such as taking their annual physical or getting cancer screenings (even cancer screenings). 

Continuous examination of the consequences of behaviors such as these will yield some compelling results in terms of how men’s health research shapes up in the future.

3. Where Is The Money To Be Spent?

Some of the risk factors that relate to others’ health are also risk factors for men’s health research. 

If you are able to use your knowledge on one risk factor about yourself, you can theoretically apply it to another area of health as well. 

For example, if you are interested in losing weight or preventing heart disease, diabetes, or cancer, it goes hand-in-hand with men’s healthcare research because it supports the positive impact of these behaviors not only on your physical well being but also on your mental well being as well. 

4. Convenience Is Not Your Friend.

Men tend to go harder with their health choices because they are often quick to give up on things that may not bring immediate results. But this is a mistake, because there are no quick fixes for anything these days. 

For example, if you are trying to lose weight, you might think that cooking your own meals is convenient but slow and inefficient. 

Taking an hour out of your day to go to the gym might seem expensive but worth it in the long run. 

But the truth is fast isn’t always better and slow doesn’t always equal effective. In fact, it’s not as well-understood as men’s health research is.

5. Men Are Losing Ground Every Year.

It can be easy to think of disease or even death as something that usually happens to other people. 

But many of the risk factors for men’s health research are things that affect all of us on a daily basis, and they aren’t getting any better over time. 

For example, diabetes is one of the leading causes of death in America (and worldwide) but there is no cure for it yet; the only way to fix it is by addressing the causes of diabetes, which are obesity and lack of activity (among others). 

And while some of these risks are more urgent than others, men’s health research will address many of them.

6. The Benefits Of A Man-To-Man Connection.

While there are undoubtedly men’s health research hotspots all over the world, they exist for women as well. 

But they often get lost in translation because often female medical professionals aren’t interested in presenting it to their male counterparts. 

For example, if you are trying to lose weight but don’t want to feel like you’re biased towards your gender, you might think that it is only smart to focus on your own body – not the bodies of your brothers or even potential mates. 

But that’s a mistake because research shows that men who weigh less are more sexually attractive and that their health is better as well.
