Sad demise of King 5 news Anchor

A beloved figure during the evening news broadcasts for over 30 years, king 5 news anchor dies in the morning after a long battle with brain cancer.

The 67-year-old veteran broadcaster was recently diagnosed with an inoperable form of cancer, but continued to anchor the 6pm and 11pm broadcasts until he succumbed to the disease.

Karr is survived by his wife Elizabeth and their two children, Will and Lindsay. 

A memorial service will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 pm at Memorial Church in downtown Seattle, King 5 News will broadcast a taped tribute to Karr at that time.

Karr began his career as a reporter at KING-TV in 1967, and became a full-time news anchor in 1970 following the retirement of former veteran anchor Tom Clark. 

However, his tenure as an anchor was short-lived, after just one year on the job, Karr accepted a job offer with rival station KIRO-TV, where he anchored evening newscasts until 1982.

1. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth and their two children.

Their names were Will and Lindsay. KING 5 News will broadcast a taped tribute to Karr at that time. 

He is very well known for his sense of humour, joke telling , quotable quotes has made him a favourite to his viewers which made him the highest paid anchor in the area according to a salary survey conducted by news director Peter Liguori which gave an annual salary of $400,000.

He has a great sense of humour that made his audience to love him more. He was a simple man who loved nature, family , friends and enjoyed laughing with those around him.

He married Elizabeth in 1974 and they have two children Will and Lindsay. He has a beautiful family and never wanted anything more than what he had, confirming his devotion to his family, friends and his work at KING 5 News. 

He did not like to be called up for interviews but did phone in after he was diagnosed with cancer to express how much he loves serving the public for their knowledge that drove him into the news industry.

4. Karr began his career as a reporter at KING-TV in 1967.

He became a full-time news anchor in 1970 following the retirement of former veteran anchor Tom Clark. 

He joined KING 5 News as a general assignment reporter in 1967. Before being promoted to an evening anchor position, he was also assigned to report on the American Civil Rights Movement. 

Karr had also served temporarily as Clark’s substitute for several weeks before permanently taking over the position after Clark retired.

During his school years he wanted to become an actor after seeing Audrey Hepburn perform on stage but later ended up becoming an anchorman who was loved by many .

5. However, his tenure as an anchor was short-lived.

Karr accepted a job offer with rival station KIRO-TV, where he anchored evening newscasts until 1982. Karr had also served for two years as a news anchor at KING 5’s sister station, WJRJ-TV in Detroit

He then moved to Seattle to join KING 5 News as its evening news anchor in 1970–1982. He later joined KIRO 7 News as the main anchor alongside Dave Ross from 1982–1986. King also worked at CBS affiliate KCAL-TV in Los Angeles during the late 1980s and early 1990s, serving as weekend co-anchor alongside Jerry Dunphy .
