What It’s Like Dating Doctors

Many people think that dating doctors is all about having to compete with other women for their attention. However, there are a number of additional challenges couples in this relationship face. Dating doctors is similar to dating anyone else — with the added bonus that you are getting a professional opinion all of the time. The healthcare industry is changing and so is marriage, but it’s still an interesting time to date one. Byars health clinic is a great place to get your doctor.

The appearance of truth on your forehead might be fake, but at least you can count on seeing a doctor when the need arises. Many people worry about the level of honesty in doctors and nurses — perhaps more so than other professions.  If you are dating a doctor, be aware of some of the following issues that may come up.

How Does Your Date’s Job Affect Your Relationship?

Not all doctors make the same amount of money, and some have more qualifications or advanced degrees than others. If you’re dating a doctor who is making less money than you, this may cause tension. You may feel that he isn’t looking after your interests — after all, what does he really know about childcare? Or perhaps he hasn’t been able to find a job in your area or has chosen not to take one. That can lead to stress for both parties.

Even if your partner is making a good living, there may still be tension. Doctors are known to spend fewer hours per week with their partners than other professionals. Even if they’re spending more time with you, there’s the worry that things will change once the baby comes along — or worse: that you will be left alone to bring up the child. When it comes to dating a nurse or doctor, people tend to get caught up in the romance of helping others, but do not forget that you are dating a person, not just their job title.

If you are dating a doctor and find yourself feeling insecure in your relationship, try talking about it as soon as possible. Think about the things you worry about with your partner and whether your concerns are reasonable. Oftentimes couples find out that their concerns were unfounded once they start dating their new partner. Discussing these things can help discover any issues early on.

Am I Being Responsible Enough?

If you are in a relationship with a doctor, you might be wondering if you are doing enough of the child-rearing duties. Dating doctors is harder than dating someone without a medical background, especially if your partner is out at work for long hours. If it feels like he isn’t coming home as much as he needs to and is choosing to stay away from home later on, this might be one of your concerns.

What’s Your Partner’s Attitude Towards Marriage?

There are many doctors who do well and find it easy to get married — but there are also doctors who don’t know if they can make the commitment. Doctors often have to balance their work with their life, so they might be hesitant when it comes time for marriage. This can cause stress for both parties in the relationship. As with anything else you need compromise from both sides. If your doctor is a conservative person, you might want to talk about the importance of marriage.

There are people who believe they should wed when they’re young and then not spend much time with their partner. You can make it clear that you don’t feel like a relationship should be short-lived, or you can explain how important it is to get married and have children. If your doctor has high-level management skills, he or she may be perfectly fine working long hours. You should still discuss wedding plans and how the workday is affecting other areas of your relationship.

Who’s in Charge?

Dating doctors may seem like it’s only you and your partner doing everything, but it’s not. Your partner may still be a doctor, but they might be the one spouse who is the breadwinner, while you are considered the housewife. You have to set boundaries around the type of work and hours your doctor works so that you can feel comfortable with both of your roles.

Who Decides What Happens?

One of the most important things for anyone in a relationship is who decides what happens when. In dating doctors, this can sometimes be difficult and lead to arguments or even divorce. One of the biggest issues is that doctors might have to make a decision about one of them being home for dinner or taking the child to a doctor’s appointment.

If you are dating a doctor, understand that he or she may have to do this more than you would — particularly if they are working longer hours. While it may not be fair, this can lead to many decisions being made by somebody other than the two of you.
