In April 2016, TNT HD made its appearance in the French television market. The television is now in high definition (HD) with 1080 pixels which means that the quality of the image has to increase for better rendering on TV sets. This major development is a real opportunity for the viewer but it requires the use of a UHF or VHF-UHF antenna.
A logical evolution of DTT
The transition from TNT to TNT HD was formalized on April 5, 2016. The standard for TV reception has thus passed from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4. The authorities had planned this evolution of TV since 2008 by authorizing only televisions with 66 cm diagonal fitted with a TNT aerial integrated with a high definition circuit to be marketed from December 1, 2009. For tv aerial installation people tend to ask service providers as well.
The development of this standard has contributed to the popularization of HD television in households. And the change made in 2016 was made smoothly since it does not translate into any modification for a large number of users. However, some people had to buy a new TV aerial, a DVB-T receiver, or an HD DVB-T decoder to be able to continue receiving the channels. An information campaign was launched by the State in November 2015 to explain all the changes brought about by HD DTT.
The advantages of the new HDTV aerial
The modification of the standard concerning the TV signal has boosted the TV aerial market in France. For a better connection, it is recommended to use an HDTV aerial using UHF or VHF-UHF technology. This evolution has advantages for the user:
Higher video quality thanks to high definition: the image resolution has gone from 280 x 720 pixels with conventional DTT to 1920 x 1080 pixels with the new HDTV aerial. The viewer, therefore, benefits from a sharper and smoother image for watching television.
More and more programs broadcasting their shows in HD: some TV channels offer many videos in Full HD. These programs are acclaimed by users thanks to viewing close to that of cinema.
State aid to acquire an HDTV aerial: since the launch of TNT TV, it has been possible to benefit households in order to acquire equipment (aerial or decoder) compatible with the new high definition standard.

The other models of TV aerials:
• The panel aerial is flat, portable, and has a wide band for multiple connections in a specific direction. It has the advantage of being able to receive TNT within a radius of 60 °.
• The GPA, also called ground plane for aerial ground plane aerial or 1/4 wave refers to a vertical dipole receiver. It is generally not very effective for a good television connection.
• The Zeppelin aerial – or J aerial – is made up of 2 rods to be able to receive and transmit radio waves. They are not suitable for having TNT at home.
• The telescopic aerial defines a small aerial that can be easily moved from one place to another. Just plug it into the TV and then orient the aerial. It is a mobile solution just like the whip aerial that you unfold with a gesture before positioning it on the TV.
