5 Difficult Things About Food Trucks

Food trucks are becoming more and more popular, especially in major cities where they can be found parked on busy streets and in industrial parks. They’re a great alternative to standard fast food joints, but there are some downsides that you might not expect. Lumpy’s food truck is a great example of the major drawbacks that come with converting a car into a mobile eatery. Lumpy’s  serves up burgers and fries in a retro style that is unique to itself, but it also provides dining options for anyone who doesn’t want to sit down in a truck for an entire meal. The menu can change frequently, and there are special menu items on occasion that are only available as a truck-only offer, which is good if you go out all the time, but not so good if you’d prefer to try something else.

Regardless of the menu, they still need to supply you with a meal. This can be done by driving to your location and opening up the window, but because trucks are mobile, it’s not always possible. They might also deliver the food to your location if you’re in close proximity but outside of the truck’s range. Lumpy’s does this on occasion, and if you don’t have a car or other form of transportation, you might find it annoying that your only option is to stay put.

 Another issue is that many food truck owners have a difficult time keeping their weight down due to the nature of their job. The hours are long and difficult, and they have to prepare each meal with care in order to ensure that it’s cooked properly within the confines of a vehicle. Some food trucks can be particularly unhealthy because of this, but you should always be careful when choosing to eat out on wheels. There are plenty of other choices out there for nearby customers, so make sure you’re getting proper nutrition rather than just a quick fix.

1. They’re not always a viable choice for cooking.

Some food trucks don’t have kitchens, and in some cases, it’s not even practical for them to have a formal kitchen. If you’re looking for places to eat that are able to be eaten in, then you might want to check out the more traditional options like pizza parlors and burger joints, which are convenient year round. If you want something that is made outside of regular hours, or on occasion and only available as part of a special event, then food trucks may be the right choice for you.

2.  It can be hard to travel with because of how hot it can get inside.

Food trucks are made out of strong steel, but that doesn’t mean that they’re immune to the heat or cold. It bothers a lot of people when their food has been sitting out in the sun for a long period of time, and it only gets worse when you add in the effects of being outdoors. If you’re dining outside and the truck is parked under a tree, then you might have to wait an extra minute or two for your food because it’s taking time to cool down.

3. There can be a language barrier between owner and customer.

There are some food truck owners who are willing to speak English, assuming that you know enough to order on a menu. But if you don’t have an understanding of what’s being served and there’s a language barrier, then it can be hard to get exactly what you want. You’ll be able to get by with just a few simple words or phrases, but if you’re ordering from someone who doesn’t speak English well or at all, then you might want to stick with the options that require less effort on your part.

4. Food trucks aren’t always in the best location for efficient parking.

While it is true that there are some food trucks that actually park their vehicles in locations that are easily accessible to their customers, it’s true that the majority of them are on the outskirts of town or in industrial parks. If your location doesn’t have a large number of people coming and going, then you might have to settle for a spot where there’s less traffic and more room to work with. You won’t be able to park right next to your destination because at this point, you’ll be competing with all kinds of other trucks for space.

5. The food isn’t always safe.

Food truck food isn’t always the healthiest choice, but this is due in large part to the fact that a lot of it doesn’t come with any refrigeration. If you’re by yourself, trying to eat your meal without getting it all over yourself, then you might not be able to properly store your leftovers until you can get home. Depending on where you’re going and what kind of food truck it is, your options might be limited to say the least. Food trucks are becoming more and more popular as time goes on, but there are some downsides that should be kept in mind.
