The Delta College Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization of business and community leaders dedicated to improving access to higher education through scholarships, community service, and innovative education.

The Delta college Foundation is the oldest continuously operating scholarship foundation in west central Michigan. Its mission is to provide financial assistance for college students from west central Michigan who otherwise may not be able to afford a college degree or part-time university program. 

Among its achievements are the Delta College Scholarship Program that provides support for students headed to post-secondary education and the Gamma Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Fraternity whose members help children in grades K-12.Delta College is an award-winning, public community college in Michigan. Founded in 1941 and accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, Delta is one of the largest institutions of higher education in the region.

The college offers a comprehensive range of associate degree and certificate programs for transfer, occupational training and personal enrichment. With over 35 major areas of study, Delta provides educational opportunities for upwards of 11,000 students per semester on several campuses throughout Mid-Michigan. All courses are taught by instructors with degrees in their respective fields.

The mission of the Delta College Foundation is to enrich Michigan’s communities by providing scholarship funding for college-bound students from west central Michigan and by inspiring individuals to take personal leadership roles in their communities. The Foundation serves as a catalyst and resource for philanthropic innovation and continues to be at the forefront of innovative and effective fundraising.

1. Delta College is a public, open-access institution.

Delta College is a public institution of higher education that offers credit, technical and non-credit courses to students under the auspices of the Michigan Department of Education (DoE). The DoE’s mission is supporting access to postsecondary educational opportunities for all people in Michigan, regardless of their socio-economic background. Delta College has responsibility to provide this access while maintaining its commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. 

This is accomplished through the delivery of comprehensive higher education programs and services at one location through accessible student services. The decision about which class or type of course is appropriate for a particular student rests with the student and often includes input from Delta College’s academic advisors.

2. Delta College is an institution of learning in a community.

Delta College exists to provide opportunities for learning and growth in a community that includes many lively, well-rounded citizens who are committed to making an impact on their own lives and the lives of others. Through programs and services that support community members’ education and life skills, Delta College promotes the human capacity for improving the quality of life in our society.

3. Delta College has a long history of helping people prepare for careers or postsecondary studies.

Delta College was created by the Michigan Legislature and began operation in 1987 as part of a statewide system of higher education opportunity that provides access to postsecondary education for all people in Michigan regardless of their socio-economic background.

Delta College has a long history of creating opportunities for individuals from all walks of life. Our mission is to support students who are struggling financially with the costs of attendance including tuition, books and fees. This assistance comes in the form of scholarships, which have been awarded since 1987. The Delta College Foundation also provides partial scholarships for students attending other institutions who wish to transfer credits to Delta College.

4. Delta College is part of the Michigan Department of Education.

5. Delta College has a long history with Beta Sigma Phi, Gamma Gamma Chapter.

Delta College has a long history with Beta Sigma Phi, Gamma Gamma Chapter. It was on the campus of Delta College in 1987 that members of Gamma Gamma held their organization’s first public service project, a clothing drive for needy children. Since then, Delta College has become the home chapter because its members have shown themselves to be among the most responsible and active on campus, providing many hours of service through the United States.

Started in 1922 at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, Beta Sigma Phi was established as a national organization by seven women who wished to promote and develop community service as an integral part of post-secondary education.
