If you want your employees to come in each day with a positive attitude and work hard at their jobs, here are five ways you can do so.

1) Use rewards for employee loyalty

Workers who put forth effort deserve something more than just praise or being paid an hourly wage, so give them incentives! Employees who stay with the company for more than six months are eligible for something special whose value exceeds their annual salary (and no, cash isn’t always what motivates someone). 

The greater the employee’s loyalty, the bigger the reward. If you can’t afford to give them a luxury car or a large sum of money, think about giving them something more practical instead! 

For example, if you can’t afford to pay your employees double time for working at home, give them an extra hour of “vacation” every other week. This way, they get paid for doing things other than work that are important to them, and they get rewarded for staying loyal.

2) Do fun stuff together

There are always ways that your employees can spend their free time that don’t involve work. Even if it’s just playing a game and having some fun together, it will help with employee morale and teamwork. 

If you can afford to do it, take your employees out for a night of fun every once in a while. If that’s not possible, try to organize a group outing at a restaurant or club once every few months.

3) Get the word out about work successes

Your company will have its fair share of meetings, so make sure you use them to keep employees up-to-date on the latest happenings within the company. 

Allow employees who made important contributions to speak, so they know how much their efforts are appreciated!

4) Be fair and benevolent

Be aware of the needs and concerns of your employees. They may seem like they don’t need anything, but many people do! 

If you see an employee hurting or in need, be sure to offer them something so they don’t struggle. Try to get people to talk about their work problems with their managers, so problems can be addressed before they become too big.

5) Encourage office socialization

If you want your employees to feel like part of the family at work, you must keep them there! Make it clear that it’s okay for them to talk about work and even do some work at their desks. If you have board games, host a party where your employees can play together. 

You can even have a social committee, which will plan events and encourage people to come to them. Usually, if people go out on the weekends together, they’ll be more comfortable with each other at work.

6. Give away company swag

If you work for a company that produces swag and souvenirs, try to find out what they have to give out! Barbecue games, small toys, and necklaces are all things that often don’t go to waste. If you can’t give them anything this year, see if they’d be interested in giving them away next year. If your company doesn’t have a holiday event every year, consider throwing a day or evening away for your employees instead.

7. Talk with the right people

There are always people who have insight into what’s going on within the office environment. Talk with your Manager about how employees feel about the job and their concerns. 

You could even talk with your employees about what they’d like to see changed in the office to keep them coming. If you don’t know who would be able to help, talk with your HR department.
